We've survived our-move-geddon (get it?? say it out loud. whatever, I'm funny), and... well, what's going on? I get at least a few emails a day asking what's going on with Redpants, especially with the online store being a bit sparse. Let's talk about what's up.
Things Are Happening!
Now that we’re starting to get settled in, it’s time to get back to business. I've been failing miserably at keeping on top of things, and for that I apologize. We're almost back to a new normal and that means no more falling behind. We’re getting restocked on a bunch of inventory so you’ll see product listings reactivated over the weeks to come. We’re also getting more projects finished up so you’ll see new products available as well.
I intentionally sold off as much inventory as I could before we relocated to make the move easier (lol fail), so getting restocked is taking some time. Sometimes it feels like I'm starting over from square one. Okay, not square one... maybe square four.
Our lightweight lug nuts are in manufacturing now, so those should be available in a few weeks. It takes time because of all the work involved with making them. Machining, anodizing, and assembly is actually a bit of a process, not to mention shipping bits around. But I definitely think they’ll be worth the wait. I’ve been running around with the V1 prototypes on one of the wheels of our red V8 Vantage project car and can’t wait to get the final version.
The updated design is sculpted to be more visually pleasing, so they'll look much better than the ones I've been testing. They're also made with stainless steel inserts instead of the normal steel in the V1 lug nuts, so they'll be more resilient as well. Here's the V2 lug nut that will probably be the final design, between the V1 lug nut (left) and OEM lug nut (right).
We’ll also be getting the a revised set of prototype BC Racing coilovers on the red car in the next couple of weeks. These have taken way, way (waaaaay) longer than expected, but that’s what happens sometimes. Not only did we relocate from Virginia to Florida, but BC Racing was also relocating to a new, larger facility. We had delays on our end, and they’ve had delays on their end, and together that’s made everything take for-e-ver. But they’re coming, and the updated prototype setup will be on our red Vantage in time for our Tech Day.
Heck Yes, Segue!
Our first ever Tech Day will be on April 28th at Jaguar of Tampa. We’ve made an event page on Facebook as well, for anyone that uses that platform (we do!). Shameless plug: Clare posts updates to our Instagram and Facebook pages, which is a great way to keep tabs on what’s going on with Redpants. If you use either of those platforms, please like and follow them!
Redpants, Aston Installations, and Jaguar of Tampa are sponsoring this event so it’s free for attendees. We’ll have a presentation with tons of information about Aston Martin infotainment systems, questions and answers, and installation tips, and some demonstrations of various functionality. And lunch is included!
If you haven’t already done so, please email the following information to me at email@example.com or through the Contact page:
- Full name
- Email address
- Phone number
- City, State
- Vehicle year and model
- Current infotainment options
- Desired infotainment upgrades/modifications
- If you want installation done
The information you provide will ONLY be used for this event. It will NOT be used for any other purpose. Your personal information will not be shared with anyone outside of Redpants (so, only me and Clare). Vehicle information will be given only to the experts we're bringing in so they can better prepare for the event to make sure the information they provide is relevant and meaningful to attendees.
I’ve finally gotten back to making videos. It’s been a while (like, 5 months) so it’s about damn time, right? The one I filmed this morning showed how to replace the front corner markers and side repeaters, and shows off our Exterior Lighting Package, high-flow intake filters, and air box delete brackets. I still need to edit and upload it, but I did film it!
It's a terrible picture, but you can see how much better the car looks without the orange corner markers and white side repeaters. I'll get better pics soon, probably tomorrow.
Next weekend I’ll be showing how to pull off the rear bumper, swap out the rear corner markers and rear bumper reflectors, replace the exhaust tips, and also show the cause of a common ‘rattle’ problem.
Tomorrow we’re going to our first car event in Florida, the Festival of Speed in St Pete. I’m going to try to do a little bit of filming but… don’t count on it too much. There’s an open bar and I’ve reached my breaking point at least eleventy times this week alone and I could use a day of poorly-managed reprieve.
And On a Personal Note...
I’m excited to say that I’ve just accomplished something of a childhood dream of mine… I’ve gotten published! The issue of Vantage Point that just went out has an article I wrote last year, so I can officially say I’m a published author!
Funny enough, I still haven’t gotten my copy. The pic above was sent to me by a friend of mine, and that's how I found out the issue was even out!
I’m pretty sure it was lost in the mail due to my move. I’ve gotten stacks of months-old mail this week alone, and it doesn’t help that I had two temporary mailing addresses prior to my now permanent address, so things keep getting bounced around before eventually making their way to me or being lost to postal oblivion. But a few people have offered their copies to me, and I can’t wait to get them so I can send them off to family. Cheesy, yes, but it’s a big deal to me.
If you're not familiar with Vantage Point, it's the Aston Martin Owners Club (AMOC) bi-annual magazine. I've been a member of AMOC for five years now, and I think it's a fantastic club. I go into it more in-depth over at my Redpants Unzipped website.
